Esztergom Cathedral (early 19th century)
About an hours drive from Budapest, the city of Esztergom is where Hungary's first
Christian king, St Istvan, was baptized and crowned (on Christmas Day 1000 AD). It is still Hungary's most sacred city and the seat of its archbishop.
Only 16 miles outside Budapest, the popular tourist shopping town of Szentendre was mostly built and inhabited by Serbian refugees. Most of its buildings date from the 18th century.
Visegrad is known for the ruins of a 13th century castle and spectacular views of the Danube.
