Los Glaciares - Perito Moreno |

Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina.
After our four hour bus trip to El Calafate, we took a tour bus to see the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. What our itinerary didn't tell us is that it is almost 80 km from Calafate, a two - three hour ride! We didn't get back to the hotel until after 9 p.m.
But the glacier, one of only three in Patagonia that is not receding, is not to be missed. It's known for its periodic ruptures, which happen when it advances enough to dam the lake and the water pressure breaks the ice barrier. It's also unusual because it's very close to the shore and is surrounded by several miles of wooden walkways and platforms.
