Hotel Ritz, Paris

As much as we loved Relais Christine, there was no way Candice was leaving Paris without staying in the world's most famous hotel, so we spent our last three nights at the Ritz.

Place Vendome Place Vendome, home of Paris' finest jewelers and the Ritz.

Candice always makes her own hotel reservations and was somewhat intimidated to be calling the fabled Ritz.   But all went well, and she summoned her courage and asked them the question: did they have a discount?  Their answer - YES!  So we got a suite at less than the price of a standard room and loved it.

Now the Ritz isn't cheap, even at discounted prices, but it's a dazzling hotel and they treated us royally, starting with the drop-dead-handsome clerk who registered us and escorted us to our room.  We didn't try the restaurant, but we made the Hemingway Bar our regular after-dinner stop.  Colin Field (who runs the bar) was the perfect host, and Candice loved his original cocktail made with lemon juice, gin, and champagne (she can't quite recall the name, it was something like a Paris 56.)
