Our itinerary had us at the Serrano Lodge for two nights, but we were instead booked at the Cabanas del Paine, which were fine. Instead of eating diner at the Cabanas restaurant, our guide
had previously told us he would cook for us both nights at the nearby guide's house and would fix me a special dinner the second night because I didn't like the salmon he had bought. We didn't know quite what to make of this and didn't object, but if I had it to do over again, I would have insisted on eating at the lodge.
The meal he prepared for us the first night was okay, but it didn't cost him near the $35 a person our meals at the lodge would have been, and I assume he pocketed the difference. And the special meal he prepared for me turned out to be cold corn mush!
