In China, your destiny is to a large degree determined by where you're born.
If you are born on a farm, a farmer you must stay; you cannot
easily move to the city as jobs and housing there are reserved for those born in the city.
If your family is able to pay the $40 US a year it costs to go to school and you do well enough, you may be able
to go to university and become a professional. That's about your only chance to escape a farmer's life.
