Founded high above the Vltava River (on the opposite side from Old Town) in the 9th century and rebuilt many times, the castle area includes St Vitus Cathedral and St. George's Basilica. Since 1918 it has been the seat of the president of the Czech Republic. The changing of the guard takes place every hour.
